Paint by number kits are hard to complete for two reasons. First, paint brushes included in the kits are usually too large for painting fine detail and small areas, and second, borders and numbers in very small areas can be difficult to see.
1.Assemble all painting supplies in a well-lighted area with a comfortable chair, free of distractions. Good lighting is important so you can clearly see borders and numbers printed on the board or canvas. Since the image is typically printed in light blue on a white background, task lighting will improve your visual contrast perception, making it easier to see small detail.
2.Buy quality paint brushes
Use the right paintbrushes. Since paint-by-number kits now include acrylic paints, synthetic brushes work well. It is important to buy brushes that have firm brush tips that maintain their shape.
3.Use a magnifying glass to see the numbers and borders in the small areas. With the small paint brush and magnifier, paint the smallest areas first. You may need to thin the paint slightly with water for better control when you paint the very small areas.
4.Paint the medium-sized areas, then the largest.
5.Using the magnifying glass, look over the painting to make sure all areas are painted. With the smallest brush, make corrections.
6.Let the painting dry for two full days. While it may feel dry to the touch in an hour or two, the paint needs to thoroughly dry before you apply a clear coat.
7.Position your painting vertically. Apply a thin coat of clear spray acrylic. Let it dry then apply a second coat.
