Color by number became popular in the 1950s. The color by number system allowed non-artist types or individuals who had little painting experience, to create paintings without formal training. This popular pastime is still popular today. The concept involves a drawing divided into numbered sections. Each number correlates with a specific color. Color by number paint kits come with brushes, paint and a color by number paint canvas. The paints used are either oil or water-based.
.Find all of the places marked "1" on the canvas board.
.Look at the numbered paint container and find the color marked "1."
.Open the container and pigment pushed plastic cups.
.Dip the paintbrush into the paint and paint all spaces marked "1."
.Clean the brush with turpentine if oil-based paint was used. Use water if water-based paint was used. Close the cap on the paint color marked "1." Wipe excess turpentine off the brush with a paper towel.
.Repeat this process for all of the numbers on the canvas board until the painting is completed.
